Passport agencies also offer to expedite your application, but it can take a quicker time. It is more of an emergency circumstance that will allow for you to get a passport in 24-72 hours. Again, proof of a crisis must be presented to get a passport in such a hurry.

To use an agency, you must first call the National Passport Center hotline toll free number at (877) 487-2778 and set up an appointment for an interview. REAL ID Act of 2005

Since the implementation of the REAL ID Act, the use of a state-issued ID card or driver’s license as identification to board a plane has changed. This new law requires that these two types of IDs have minimum security standards. Where implemented, users will not be affected. If not, other forms of ID can be used instead.

In regards to the REAL ID Act, the entire US, including its territories, must make changes to all state-issued ID cards and driver’s license by October 1, 2020. Whichever state that is not compliant cannot use the previously mention IDs at airports.

On the TSA website, there are alternative documents that can be used for traveling. Here is a list of some of these documents:

  • U.S. passport
  • U.S. passport card
  • DHS trusted traveler cards (Global Entry, NEXUS, SENTRI, FAST)
  • U.S. military ID (active duty or retired military and their dependents, and DoD civilians)
  • Permanent resident card
  • HSPD-12 PIV card

You will need only one to use as an ID. If you already have one from the list, you do not need to apply for another. Make sure it is valid before you travel by air.
