Louisiana Passport Offices- Where to submit a passport application in Louisiana?

Do you know where to go and submit your application forms? There are plenty of acceptance offices in Louisiana. The most convenient place is the post office. At the post office, some agents are certified to collect your documents and submit them for processing. As the post offices, other locations will accept your documents. These places are courthouses, county clerk’s offices, and public libraries. The fees are the same for all sites.

Some facilities offer expedited service which can get a passport in half the standard processing time. This service is suitable for individuals who will travel in less than four weeks. Proof of travel is required to use this process.

Before going to any offices, call as sometimes appointments are necessary. Also, these buildings close during Federal and some public holidays. Below are some essential post offices in different cities in Louisiana.

Expedited Passport Services in Louisiana

Getting your passport application rush and process in a shorter period will cost more than the standard processing time. Also, proof of the need must be shown to begin the process. Expeditors can get a passport in 2-3 weeks or 24 hours. It all depends on the need. The faster the process, the more the fees will be.

Expeditors employ the service of a passport agency if a passport is required in 24 hours. Passport agencies have the authority from the State Department to provide such document in that short period. Again, the applicant must present proof to get the document.

Every state does not have a passport agency; therefore, you must call the National Passport Center hotline at (877) 487-2778 to find one and get an interview. Most agencies are in Federal Buildings, so they are closed on Federal Holidays. Here are some agencies and locations:

REAL ID Act of 2005

The REAL ID Act enforces minimum standard security on all state-issued ID cards and driver’s licenses. This law affects anyone who uses any of these ID cards for identification purposes at airports.

If you live in a state that is compliant with the law, your ID already features the changes. Louisiana is compliant; therefore, its residents will not get stopped by TSA agents. However, the opposite will happen to noncompliant states’ residents unless an extension after the deadline is given.

Extensions are useful through October 18, 2018. Until then, there is no need to get a new ID since TSA will continue to honor the current one. But, the entire US and its territories have until October 1, 2020, to change their ID cards or else TSA will reject them.

TSA, on the other hand, has suggested on its website some alternative document you may apply for to use when traveling. Some of these documents are:

  • U.S. passport
  • U.S. passport card
  • DHS trusted traveler cards (Global Entry, NEXUS, SENTRI, FAST)
  • U.S. military ID (active duty or retired military and their dependents, and DoD civilians)
  • Permanent resident card
  • HSPD-12 PIV card

If you already possess one, there is no need to apply for another. Also, not having one should not deter you from traveling by air. Just apply for one, and you can have it in no time.

Below is an extended list of Louisiana Passport Offices in different counties. You can visit anyone to get the process started.
