What is an Acceptance Agent?

An Acceptance Agent is a person who works with and is authorized by the U.S. government to valid all legal documents for the government. They help to verify that passport documents signatures’ were not forged.

When signing documents for a passport, an acceptance agent will need to be present. When you bring your passport documents to an acceptance agent, it will be beneficial for you to have your documents completely filled out barring the lines requiring a signature.

By having filled out the forms, you can make the process faster for both you and your agent. It is also required that you bring some form of identification such as a Driver’s License or state identification.

However, depending on acceptance agents, there might be a variation in the documents required. It is best to contact the acceptance agent to make sure of the requirements before you meet with them, or to research what is required on their website, should they happen to have one. If you need the passport as quickly as possible, go to your acceptance agent first to have your passport documents verified and then visit your nearest regional passport agency. If you do this all on the same day, the passport agency will be able to process your passport on that day.
