Wyoming Passport Offices – How to get a passport in Wyoming

Wyoming Passport Offices are in different locations throughout the state. The most common place you can find one in at a post office. Post Offices are certified site that will accept passport applications and fees. There, the documents are packaged together and sent to a processing center. The average processing time is 4-6 weeks then you will get your document in the mail. Some facilities offer expedited services, ask about this option.

Other locations accept applications as well. They are courthouses, county clerk’s offices, and public libraries. They all have the same processing time, and the fee for each form is the same. So, if you choose to go a courthouse, your cost and waiting time for processing will be the same as going to a post office. Be mindful that some sites require an appointment, so call to make sure the one you are going does expect one. Below is a table with locations of passport offices across cities in Wyoming.

Expediting your application can be done with an expeditor. For this process, you must provide your itinerary for your trip and the completed forms along with the fees. The information is packaged and expresses to a processing center. The processing time for expedited service is 2-3 weeks, and you may receive it in the mail or return to the expeditor’s office to get your new passport. Getting an emergency passport is only possible through a passport agency, so contact one if you do need one.

READ ID Act of 2005

The REAL ID Act is going to change the type of document we use to travel if the entire United States does not implement the standard security features Congress has suggested. These features will help prevent ID cards from being counterfeited by anyone who wants to do anything illegal. Agencies like TSA are asked to stop anyone with ID cards that do not have these security features. As of now, the law is not fully implemented but soon will. TSA currently has on its website alternative documents which already contains these security features. Here are a few from the list:

  • U.S. passport
  • U.S. passport card
  • DHS trusted traveler cards (Global Entry, NEXUS, SENTRI, FAST)
  • U.S. military ID (active duty or retired military and their dependents, and DoD civilians)
  • Permanent resident card
  • HSPD-12 PIV card

If you have or more from the list, you can take it with you when you go to the airport. If not, the ideal document to have is a passport. With a passport, you can travel not on international, which we all use when we go abroad, but can be used when we fly domestically as well. So, get a passport today and prevent being stopped by TSA agents on your next trip.
